Break Any Bad Teeth Brushing Habits That You May Have

You’re brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once every day, which is wonderful. You’re on your way to ideal oral hygiene. You might not be aware, however, that there are some common teeth brushing habits to break to improve brushing technique. Dr. Daniel J Walker and our team are happy to go over some of the bad brushing habits that you should break.

Brushing your teeth with a hard-bristled toothbrush can wear down the tooth enamel. We suggest that you brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Have you had your toothbrush for a long time? You may not realize this, but your toothbrush should be replaced every three to four months. Do not wait to get a new toothbrush until you come in for your routine teeth cleaning appointment. If your toothbrush’s bristles begin to fray or become broken, it’s a sign that the time has come to replace your toothbrush.

Keeping your toothbrush in a closed container like a drawer, cupboard or travel toothbrush holder isn’t the best idea. Let your toothbrush dry in the open in an upright position so that germs can’t grow as easily.

Did you know that you should brush your teeth for a full two minutes twice a day? Did you also know that the average person only brushes for about 45 seconds? Try setting a two-minute timer or listening to a two-minute song while brushing your teeth.

Many people use too much pressure when brushing their teeth. Using too much pressure, or scrubbing, can wear down the tooth enamel. This makes cavities more likely. Try thinking of brushing your teeth as massaging your teeth.
